If you're familiar only with the standard American release you'll find a lot of surprises here! Some of the dialog is straight up hilarious here. All of the writing makes more sense and the odd random battle sounds you'd sometimes hear have been fixed. It's tough to relearn what all of the item names are, but I enjoyed the newness of everything. Character names are different too, but all of the differences are just a blast to discover. It runs great and having a brand new battery is wonderful too! Literally the only bummer is that pushing reset simply freezes the game. No big deal though! A hard reset to a previous save made no difference in the end. A !

This hack does a couple things: As a fan translation, it uses names and terminology more in line with the later Phantasy Star games for a modern-day audience. Secondly, it re-enables the FM chip music that was removed from the original US release, though you need the hardware to play it such as a PowerBase Mini FM. This is my favorite SMS game (so far) partly because it has the best FM music. This game is VERY grindy, but I still like how quirky the world is, and there are plenty of hints online to make it not so tedious. I'm very pleased to have bought this.
