Happy Camper Summary

Happy Camper

Happy Camper for Nes is an action-adventure game that was coded by Jon Valesh. John says that the game actually started out as something that would poke fun at the environmentalist and camping scene, but then evolved into a shooter type game in which the camper was fighting space aliens. The game scenario of Happy Camper is that you are out to have a relaxing weekend "getting back to nature" away from all the stress of life. But the Campground turns out to be a living nightmare. The forest creatures that you encounter seem more sinister, agitated and upset than you would have imagined. Then a giant mutant lizard frog leaps out of nowhere and kidnaps your girlfriend Sandy. So now you must make your way through this hostile camp site, while battling aliens, that seem to be at the root of the strange happenings. This game actually caught me off guard at the diversity of the gameplay that it featured. I was not expecting this from an unreleased game. It starts out as a side scrolling platformer, there is a swimming element incorporated here. And the last level ends as another side scroller but as a shooter while you fly around space in a beat up Recreational Vehicle. It's a difficult but fun game, a must for any NES game collector.

NOTE: This is a Color Dream cartridge, which can be tricky to get playing on the NES. Case color will be black or blue. It will be random.
