M&L Superstar Saga's one of my favourite games, so I may be a bit biased here, but this game is one of the best on the system. It's a relatively simplistic RPG with an interactive action-based battle system, where for lack of a better term, tiny "minigames" are played to do higher-damage attacks. The game oozes style and soul, with a ton of wit, and a variety of creative locations and characters. Basically, if you love Superstar Saga (released only a year later), you'll love this. Alphadream took a ton of inspiration from Tomato Adventure for their future works, and it really shows. I would highly recommend trying it out!
