Super Metroid Phazon (created by Red M0nk3y) is a well-known ROM hack of Super Metroid that casts you as Dark Samus exploring new areas, custom environments, and original mechanics inspired by the Metroid Prime series. This is v0.4 which is basically a different game than the previous revision.
